Within the Technical Landscape Services (TLS), Subsurface Wells & Technical Infrastructure (SW&TI) supports the infrastructure for Technical Professionals in the Exploration and Production operating from various locations around the globe. In this department, the Subsurface Application Services team delivers on GeoSigns specific back-end services which are provided by a virtual team located in the Netherlands, USA and Bangalore. We’re looking for candidates to strengthen the team covering operational support, service improvements and technical project lead related activities.
 
Main activities
Operations:

  • Provide 2nd line operational support, with focus on day to day incident management related to the proprietary applications called nDI and BPA2 (Basin Play Analysis) that are heavily reliant on GIS technologies
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical application issues: application access, recovery and tuning
  • End-to-end monitoring and problem management across all technical areas
  • Act as interface between our customers and various infrastructure support groups providing operating system and storage/network support
  • Work very closely with the customer to provide guidance in the effective use of the systems, products and services in scope

 
Participate in global pro-active GeoSigns service enhancements:
  • Plan and participate in global GeoSigns backend evergreening activities like new releases, security patches and application upgrades
  • Automation of application maintenance workflows with Python (i.e. upgrade, migration, stabilization, workaround)
  • Document, maintain and improve service performance metrics

 
Participate in new application deployments and introduction of new technologies:
  • Translate customer requirements in infrastructure design and managing component infrastructure provider’s delivery on new requirements
  • On-boarding (technical support) of new functionality into the service, ensure appropriate transition from project to support
  • Deploy backend services to new locations around the globe liaising with hardware, storage & operating system component infrastructure providers and customers
  • Contribute to successful project delivery within agreed time and budget

Functie eisen

Knowledge skills and abilities
Must have:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, geography, geology, GIS, or other closely related field
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in similar role
  • Excellent GIS backend application support skills covering ArcGIS Server, Internet Information Services (IIS), ArcSDE and Oracle on Linux and/or SQL Server
  • Very good IT Infrastructure skills covering Windows Server (and Linux) administration
  • Experience with middleware administration and configuration (Web applications on IIS, Tomcat, Active Directory, Kerberos KDC, DNS)
  • Experience with cloud technologies and deployment automation (ie chef)
  • Exposure to Python scripting (optional PowerShell)
  • Customer focused and pro-active attitude; enjoy customer facing, taking end-to-end responsibility
  • Be able to work with various specialized multinational support teams to bring complex requests or problems to timely resolution
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written
  • In-depth analytical and troubleshooting skills on a variety of platforms
  • Be flexible, and willing to work outside of normal office hours in order to ensure that service and high customer satisfaction is maintained

 
Nice-to-have/preferred:

  • Experience participating in a virtual team of people delivering global services/projects.
  • Experience in multinational/multicultural enterprise
  • Exposure to the oil and gas industry. In particular exploration and production, preferably in the Subsurface/Geomatics arena
